OFSTED NEWS

OFSTED

The report has been published and can be found on the OFSTED website or by following this link

We are pleased with the report overall. It acknowledges the many good or excellent things that the school does. The overall judgement is satisfactory with many good features. This was predictable considering the new OFSTED framework introduced in September which judges  schools over 3 years and not just on their current position.

Post 16 focussed on those students who underachieved or for those who did the course over 3 years. We still believe that it is the right decision to allow students to do a course over 3 years as it is part of our personalised and individualised curriculum. OFSTED did not quite agree with us on that matter. Post 16 attendance has been an issue for a minority of students and we hope this will improve.

We still believe that we are a good school. Our 2009 results were the best ever and  the Performance tables place us very favourably in Leeds (link).

For those who are not sure, CVA (Contextual Value Added)  takes into account the progress we are making with our pupils considering various factors. Locally we are doing better with our youngsters than some schools which claim that they are brilliant.  In fact for  post 16, if we take the specialist colleges out (Leeds College of Building and Notre Dame), we are in the top 10 for 11-18 schools in Leeds. But we do need to ensure that all students embark on the right course and achieve at or above target.

Many thanks for your continuing support.
